  • The cornerstone for the new dormitory named Dilworth II was laid on September 22, 1959. The name of the dormitory continued the "tradition of a name so warmly regarded throughout the history of the College"- first as its founder, Joseph Dilworth; second as the first building added to the campus of the Pennsylvania Female College in 1889; and third as the name of the preparatory school that operated there from 1907 until 1917. The cornerstone of Dilworth II contains items recovered from the cornerstone of the original Dilworth Hall which was demolished in 1952, including a college catalog from 1887-1888 and the Alumnae Recorder for June 1888. New items added to the cornerstone include a membership list of the Dilworth Hall Alumnae Association and various College publications from 1959. Graduates of the Dilworth Hall Preparatory School attended the ceremony. The new dorm is built of red brick in the Georgian style architecture and contains 33 bedrooms plus 3 faculty apartments, a social room, game room, and kitchenettes.
