  • In this photograph, College President Rebecca Stafford (center) spends time with two women from the Gateway Program and their children. The Program provided adult students with scholarships and financial aid, academic credits for previous classes and experiences, mentors, and internships. Behind the women, Berry Hall II offered 10 apartments for women in the Gateway Program- five for single women and five for single mothers with one child under 10 years old. This special on-campus housing arrangement encouraged women to finish their college degrees. When the Program was started in 1974, women were housed in the Gateway house.
