Description
Dr. Rebecca Stafford was President of Chatham College from 1983 to 1991. She graduated magna cum laude from Radcliffe College and received both her Master's and Doctoral degrees in Sociology from Harvard. Before coming to Chatham, Stafford was Executive Vice President and Professor of Sociology at Colorado State University. During her tenure at Chatham, Stafford was able to establish a consistent enrollment and stabilize the finances of the College. She also supported the 1990 proposal to begin admitting men to the College which many in the College community opposed. She resigned at the end of the academic year stating that it was "time for new leadership."
