Description
Lothrop Hall is located at 19 Lothrop Street on the University of Pittsburgh campus, in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. The structure, built by the W.F. Trimble and Sons Company, is named for Sylvanus Lothrop, an important Pittsburgh engineer and businessman who built the first locks and a number of major bridges on the Monongahela River during the 1830s and 1840s. The residence hall was originally known as the University of Pittsburgh Residence for Nurses. The facility is located in the center of the University of Pittsburgh Health Center, one of the world’s most concentrated medical complexes. The fourteen-story structure currently houses about 700 undergraduate students. The building is composed of single and double dorms, with a communal bathroom and shower on each floor. The structure also contains the Undergraduate Nurses in Training Community, a fitness center, laundry room, and a mailroom.
