Description
An aerial view of Manchester, a neighborhood in the North Side section of Pittsburgh. Just west of Allegheny West, Manchester originally was a borough (1843) and was annexed by the City of Allegheny in 1867, well before Allegheny became part of Pittsburgh in 1907. A middle-class residential area centered on Pennsylvania Avenue, the neighborhood went into a rapid decline after the 1950s. Rebuilding and restoration efforts since the last quarter of the twentieth century have improved the quality of the neighborhood.
