Description
Dravo Corporation, founded in 1891 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, originally sold power plant equipment and expanded into erection services, which in 1898 led the company into the general construction field. Dravo formed an affiliate company to produce sand and gravel to supply its construction projects and soon realized that towboats and barges would be needed to transport these building supplies. In response, the company entered the shipbuilding and river transportation business.
