Description
The Allegheny Housing Rehabilitation Corporation (AHRCO) revitalized homes in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood during the late 1960s and early 1970s. AHRCO was founded in 1968 by Action Housing. As a for-profit organization, it gained its finances from forty Pittsburgh-based corporations who wanted to provide decent housing for low and moderate-income families in the Pittsburgh region. In 1975 Action Housing sold the company, which was later purchased by the president of the company, Milton Washington, who became the sole stockholder. (Note: refer to Collection No. MSP285.B029.F39.I03 for a view of the same area before rehabilitation).
