Description
Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation’s Research Center. Over the years, Jones & Laughlin consistently expanded its research facilities from the employment of their first chemist in 1884, through the addition of metallurgists in 1912, and their first geologist in 1927. Initially, research was conducted in the plants by personnel, but in 1930 their efforts were centralized in an old house on Carson Street. In 1937 the Hazelwood Research Laboratory was established for metallurgical exploration and experimentation.
