Description
In addition to the pool, Bloomfield Playground features a senior recreation center, basketball court, ball field, hockey court, and play area to serve this congested city neighborhood. Bloomfield, located approximately 3 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh, was developed between 1870 and 1905 by Joseph Conrad Winebiddle, a German immigrant and prominent landowner. The naming of the area was most likely from the many wild flowers blooming long ago in the fields there. Never a borough or municipality, Bloomfield was annexed to the City of Pittsburgh in 1868 as a part of Peebles Township.
