Description
Equitable Plaza, located at Gateway Center in downtown Pittsburgh, is surrounded by the Gateway Center buildings, built by the Equitable Life Assurance Company. Trees have been planted to provide shady lanes for strolling. Equitable Life Assurance Society spent approximately $40 million on the Gateway Center and Point Park redevelopment project. Equitable acquired the land through the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh. Gateway Center, consisting of Gateway Plaza (1950-1953), was originally conceived in 1947. The One, Two, and Three Gateway Buildings were designed by architects Otto Eggers and Daniel Higgins, with Irwin Clavan.
