Description
The newly planted gardens in the plaza surrounding the first Gateway Center buildings were intended to provide downtown Pittsburgh workers or visitors a shady place to stroll or rest. The fountain (center) remains to this day a key feature of the plaza. The clear vista shown here, which provided a view of the old Point Bridge with Mount Washington in the background, was soon to be blocked by the construction of the Hilton Hotel and the Gateway Towers.
