Description
Construction of the 12-story Bell Telephone Company Building began in September 27, 1956, when the corner stone was laid, and was completed in 1957. The structure, designed by architects Press C. and William C. Dowler, cost over $8.5 million to construct. The Equitable Life Assurance Society purchased Stanwix Street in the late 1940s and sold a large track of land in downtown Pittsburgh to Bell Telephone Company, allowing them to construct the office building during Renaissance I. Four Gateway Center is under construction in the left background.
