  • Construction of the Bell Telephone Company Building began in September 27, 1956, when the corner stone was laid, and was completed in 1957. The structure was designed by architects Press C. and William C. Dowler at a cost of over $8.5 million. The Equitable Life Assurance Society purchased Stanwix Street in the late 1940s and sold a large track of land to Bell Telephone Company, allowing them to construct the office building during Pittsburgh's Renaissance I. Note the Gateway Center Buildings (completed in 1952) in the background.
