Description
The North Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, also known as the North Shore, was formally known as the City of Allegheny. Part of this area was planned by William Robinson in 1848 after the Mexican-American War. In the center of the photograph is Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Allegheny General Hospital (top right), Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny Branch (left corner), and the Allegheny Commons East housing development (bottom left) designed by Tasso Katselas in 1966.
