Description
For years the Pittsburgh Opera performed at the Syria Mosque in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Here, members of the company, usually supplemented by stars from New York, perform the opera “Tosca.” The Opera Orchestra was composed mostly of members of the Pittsburgh Symphony. With the opening of Heinz Hall and the Benedum Center, opera performances moved into downtown Pittsburgh. Demolition of the Syria Mosque began in 1991.
