Description
The Carnegie Library first started the bookmobile service in 1952. The first bookmobile was a gift of the Wherrett Memorial Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation. Originally launched to provide library service to areas in Allegheny County which had no public libraries, the bookmobile currently serves members of a community that are unable to go to a library due to age and physical restrictions. Today, the bookmobile is stocked with a wide variety of materials including 2000 books, videos, DVDs, CDs, audio books, and a public access computer for children and adults. The bookmobile offers the same types of services that a stationary library provides.
