Description
The Carnegie Library first started the Bookmobile service in 1952. The first bookmobile itself, seen here, was a gift of the Wherrett Memorial Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation. Its original purpose was to provide library service to areas that had no local libraries throughout Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Since then, many new local branches have been built throughout the region and the main focus of bookmobile service has evolved into a way of bringing the library to people who otherwise might not be able to get to one.
