Description
The Mesta Machine Company, located about six miles from Pittsburgh, covered more than twenty acres and employed approximately three thousand employees, most of whom were skilled mechanics, in the late 1910s. The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment during the first half of the twentieth century. Some of the buildings, all of which were fireproof, that occupied the site included machine shops, forge shops, a pattern shop, an iron foundry, a steel and brass foundry, and laboratories. In 1983 WHEMCO acquired the assets of Mesta Machine Company.
