  • The Mesta Machine Company was equipped with 28 roll-turning lathes of various sizes that produced rolls for rolling mills in the early part of the twentieth century. Mesta Machine Company turning lathes were built in five sizes, which were 20-inch, 29-inch, 36-inch, 40-inch, and 50-inch. Mesta was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century. The plant, located about six miles from Pittsburgh, covered more than twenty acres and employed approximately three thousand employees, most of whom were skilled mechanics, in the early twentieth century.
