  • The Gear Molding Department at the Mesta Machine Company, located about six miles from Pittsburgh on the Monongahela River, was equipped with patented machines, built by Mesta Machine Company, that were capable of producing spur gears, double helical gears, bevel gears, mitre gears, and various other classes of gears. The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century, and employed approximately three thousand employees, most of whom were skilled mechanics. In 1983 WHEMCO acquired the assets of Mesta Machine Company.
