Description
Manchester Elementary School, once known as the Sixth Ward School, originally stood at Chateau and Juiata Streets. The school was built in 1870 and then rebuilt in 1897. The Pittsburgh Public School Board closed the Chateau Street school in 1964. The new school, designed by architects Lawrence and Anthony Wolfe, opened at 1612 Manhattan Street in September 1965. The school serves the Pittsburgh communities of Manchester and old Allegheny (Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood).
