Description
Shakespeare School was named for a country inn or roadhouse, named the Shakespeare Hotel, which occupied the site in the pioneer days. The old building was moved to a corner of the square and used for classes until the present school was erected. Later, it was used for manual training classes, then for storage purposes. The school, located on 6322 Shakespeare Street in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, was built in 1844, closed in 1956, and sold to Harbaugh Miller in April of the same year.
