Description
Portrait of Michael Keller “Iron Mike” Ditka, Jr., a tight end for the Pitt Panthers from 1958 to 1960 who served as team captain his senior year. He was a 1960 All-American and was elected to the All-East team that same year. Ditka was the fifth overall pick in the 1961 NFL Draft, joining the Chicago Bears. He stayed with the Bears until 1967, when he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent two seasons before being sent to the Dallas Cowboys in 1969. He then spent four seasons with the Cowboys. In 1986, Ditka was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame and in 1988, he became the first tight end ever inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His University of Pittsburgh No. 89 jersey was retired in 1997.
