Description
First Methodist Episcopal Church on Franklin Street, looking up from Locust Street. The "Stone Jug" refers to the city jail that existed on Franklin Street that was demolished in 1873, before this image was taken. The "Public Square" was the central green space in town, often used as a market space, until it was adapted into Central Park in 1879.
