  • A woman poses for a portrait, one bundle of plants in her hands and another tucked into the neckline of her dress. In the background, Lake Conemaugh can be distinguished. The lake was originally constructed with the South Fork Dam as a reservoir for the Pennsylvania Canal. The reservoir and dam were both abandoned when the canal system was replaced by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Later, the abandoned reservoir and dam were purchased by the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club (Pa.) to create "Lake Conemaugh," which was used by the club for recreation.
