Description
View of Pitt Stadium with the Cathedral of Learning in the background, looking south east from the Stadium. Home of the Pittsburgh (Pitt) Panthers football team, the stadium was opened in 1925 and had a seating capacity of over 56,000. The Pittsburgh Steelers played some of their games at the stadium between 1958 and 1963 and the Carnegie Tech Titans also played their home games there between 1929 and 1943. The Pitt Panther basketball team also played at Pitt Stadium in the Pitt Pavilion from 1924-1981. The basketball court was located at the south end of the stadium between Gates A and B. The Pitt Band also practiced here briefly. Pitt Stadium was demolished in 1999.
