  • In 1874 the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased 215 acres land, about 15 miles from Pittsburgh, a tract of land would serve as the new and expanded Pittsburgh rail yards. Thus began the decades-long love affair between Patton Township and the Pennsylvania Railroad, culminating in the massive Pitcairn Railroad Yard.
