Description
The Kether Torah Synagogue occupied this building at the corner of Webster and Erin Street from 1918 to the early 1950s. It is a three-storey brick building with a six-pointed star shaped window over the main entrance. A Hebrew inscription is visible over the building's other entrance. The building served as the home of the Carter Chapel CME church for a few years in the 1950s before being sold to the Zion Hill Baptist Church. The automobile on the far right dates from the late 1940s. Reverend Adam Kinsel, Jr., pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church, states that Harris took this photograph to promote a fundraising campaign for the renovation of the church and publication in the Pittsburgh Courier.
