Description
View of the 1504-foot long Wabash Bridge as seen from the Monongahela River. The height of the bridge deck was approximately 46 feet above river level. Construction of the bridge began in 1902. The bridge collapsed on October 19, 1903, before it could be placed in service. The Wabash Bridge was subsequently completed in 1904. The superstructure of the bridge was removed in 1948 and only the piers remain to this day.
