A concept drawing by architects Mitchell & Ritchey showing the Lower Hill urban redevelopment project. The reconstruction of the Lower Hill began in 1955 with $17 million in federal grants. This project encompassed 100 acres, the demolition of 1300 buildings and 413 businesses, and the displacement of 8000 residents (a majority of them African-Americans) in an attempt to extend the revitalization of the adjacent Golden Triangle.
