  • Oliver High School was named in honor of David B. Oliver, who served in the Pittsburgh Public School system for fifty years. Oliver High School, designed by the architectural firm of James T. Steen & Sons, opened to grades 7 through 11 on February 3, 1925. The school's complex encompassed the largest area, approximately 44 acres, of any other high school in the City of Pittsburgh. The building sits on a former brickyard and city dump. In 1928 an addition was constructed to the rear of the structure and several classrooms and library were enlarged to accommodate the growing student population. Today, the school primarily serves residents of the North Side and Mount Oliver communities of Pittsburgh, however, registration is open to all residents of Pittsburgh.
