Description
Women played in a key role in electing Democratic candidates to office. Featured at rear of car is Mrs. K. Leroy Irvis, first wife of the future Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. On the car the candidates are listed: For Governor David L. Lawrence, For U.S. Senator George M. Leader, For State Legislature K. Leroy Irvis, Jas F. Clarke, 1st 3rd 4th 5th and 16th Wards." George M. Leader was governor of Pennsylvania from 1955-1959, he is well known for protecting the civil rights of African Americans. David L. Lawrence was governor of Pennsylvania from 1959-1963. He died in 1966."
