  • Description
  • Pigmeat" (real name unknown) was a pimp whose operations were based at the Crawford Grill, Hill District. His lavish funeral, well attended by former employees, was extensively documented by Harris. Cemetery officials allotted him a remote gravesite set in a ravine, with no paved access. Allegheny Cemetery, at 4734 Butler Street in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood, was constructed in the 1840s and is the burial site for many distinguished Pittsburghers. The style of clothing in the photograph suggests a date of ca. 1945-1955."
