Description
Ahmad Jamal was born July 2, 1930, in the city of Pittsburgh. By the age of seven his piano playing advanced him to the status of child prodigy. His teachers were concert singer Mary Caldwell Dawson, and pianist James Miller. He is a major influence on jazz music and especially musician Miles Davis. He has won the National Endowment for the Arts Duke Ellington Fellowship at Yale University, and has made eighteen recordings. This photograph may have been taken at the Kay Boys Club in the Hill district.
